Detailed Comparison & Practical Advice
When homeowners desire a flawless, seamless painted finish on doors, wall panelling, or pooja units without any edge-banding lines, Polyurethane (PU) polish and Duco paint are the two premier choices.
| Criteria | PU polish | Duco (NC lacquer) |
|---|---|---|
| Base Chemistry | Polyurethane 2-component polymer coat (Polyol + Isocyanate) | Nitrocellulose (NC) lacquer-based automotive paint |
| Hardness & Durability | Extremely tough, elastic, scratch-proof & chemical resistant | Moderate hardness; prone to chipping if bumped heavily |
| Yellowing Over Time | Non-yellowing acrylic aliphatic PU formulation | Tends to develop a yellowish tint when exposed to UV light |
| Water & Heat Resistance | 100% Impervious to water, boiling liquids & alcohol spills | Can blister under prolonged moisture contact |
| Application Method | Sprayed in dust-free spray booth with 4 to 6 layered coats | Sprayed in multiple thin coats with fine wet sanding |
| Cost per Sqft | ₹350 to ₹600 per sqft (Luxury Tier) | ₹220 to ₹350 per sqft (Mid Tier) |
Craftsman's Verdict from 16+ Years Experience. Our Recommendation: For all long-term home interiors, Italian PU polish (such as ICA or Sirca) is vastly superior to older Duco paint. It maintains its pristine color, never yellows, and withstands daily household cleaning.

Frequently asked questions
Can PU polish be done on-site at my home?
We strongly advise against on-site spraying due to airborne dust settling on wet paint. At Deepak Interiors Works, all PU components are sprayed and cured in our dedicated workshop spray booth.
